Malcolm Smith is an English painter inspired by 1960s romance comics, transforming their dramatic narratives into bold, contemporary pop art. Born in Essex and trained in engineering and architecture in London and Cambridge, Smith ultimately left his professional career to pursue painting full time.
Working in hand-painted acrylic on canvas, he favors a disciplined palette of primary colors and incorporates the Ben-Day dot technique to evoke the aesthetic of mid-century comic printing. His compositions often depict confident, sensual women captured in cinematic, emotionally charged moments reminiscent of vintage comic panels.
